CELLULITE
Cellulite affects women almost exclusively, it is found most often on the outer side of the thighs, hips and buttocks. The presence of cellulite can be caused by the structure of a woman and also ageing as much as bodyweight.
Structurally cellulite is made up from a network of fibrous bands on top of fat. The fat pushing through the fibrous bands cause the dimpled appearance also nicknamed 'orange peel'. The more fat there is the more the cellulite shows, this is why in some cases a woman with a normal bodyweight may have a greater degree of cellulite than that of an overweight women, as they are genetically more inclined to this condition than others.
Ageing, another cause of cellulite, can start in the early 20's or even younger. When the layer of fat below the skin which gives the smooth appearance begins to break down, the skin then loses elasticity, which causes the supportive structure to weaken, which means the older we get the less fat it takes to show cellulite.
There are claims that creams can reduce cellulite, these work by producing a warm sensation on the skin, causing the fat cells under the skin to mobilise and metabolise in the system, but there are no reports to say that any of these creams work, especially as cellulite runs deep and the metabolic process takes place inside and not outside of the body.
The only real way to reduce cellulite is through diet and exercise, which means cutting down on fat and salt. Eat plenty of fibre from fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Drink lots of water to flush the system. Keep your calories in moderation by eating smaller meals regularly instead of large meals sporadically.
Aerobic exercise will improve blood flow. Try doing at least three to four sessions of aerobics a week for about 30 minutes for the fat burning effect, and also to increase you metabolism to make your system function more efficiently.
Try some exercise with weights for the hip and thigh area, at least three times a week. Lack of muscle tone will accentuate cellulite. As we said earlier because of ageing, the layer of fat below the skin begins to break down with the muscle underneath supporting it, the breakdown of fat will be controlled and minimised.
So if you want to look good and reduce the appearance of orange peel on your hips and thighs, exercise frequently and eat a healthy diet, it will be hard work but it will be worth it.
